Build Your Own Laptop Cooler
[showmyads]Take a close look at your laptop before you attempt building the laptop cooler. The elements that heat up, namely the processor and power supply unit could be placed differently thereby requiring different placement of the cooling fans. Start by cutting an acrylic sheet the size of your laptop. This will form the base of your laptop cooler. Generally the heating elements are near the upper portion of the laptop. So you can also conveniently place three fans in a line so that your laptop gets adequate air for cooling. Once you have located the region at the base of your laptop that needs cooling, mark it on the sheet you have just cut. For proper airflow, you’d need the sheet or the base of your laptop cooler to be elevated from your workspace. There are several ways you can do this. However, the more complicated path you choose the more complex your construction is going to get and your budget going to increase. We’ve tried to keep this design as simple as possible, so that you don’t need any complicated tools and that the cost of your laptop cooler is kept at the bare minimum. Cut a rectangular piece of the acrylic sheet according to the dimensions of your laptop. To avoid unwanted scratches on the acrylic, do not remove the protective sheet until you are done cutting. Using a pencil, mark out the areas you need to add the fan. Two 5V fans should be sufficient for a basic laptop.
After you have fixed the fans and wired them, you need to connect the male connector of the USB cable so that you can power your laptop cooler via the USB port of your laptop. You’re nearly done with your laptop cooler. Your last step will be ensuring a stable base. Cut strips for mechanical support of the laptop cooler. Stick the acrylic sheets for mechanical support, and you’re done. Connect the cable to the USB port of your laptop and the fans should blow air.
