Windows 8: Review
[showmyads]
On June 1, 2011 Microsoft had officially unveiled windows 8 in the form of developer’s preview. The release was a huge success. According to the Microsoft’s president Steven Sinofsky, there were more than 5 million downloads of the developer’s preview in first 12 hours. On February 29, 2012 it again launched consumer preview of new windows with lots of improvements.
Recently there are more talks about the new look of windows 8. After a very long time, (since windows 95) Microsoft has finally
removed its start menu and replaced it with a metro style start screen similar to windows phone operating system(which has been
criticized by some windows users) containing many tiles. Each tile actually represents an application and will be able to display relevant information such as the number of unread messages on the tile for an email app or the current temperature on a weather application. Metro style Apps are developed
with the new windows runtime platform using programming languages like C++, Visual Basic, HTML5, and Java script.
With windows 8, Microsoft has taken a leap towards the touch generation, basically targeting the tablet PCs. Windows 8 supports the ARM processors( simple processors used in low power appliances such as cell phones, tablets, etc.). However, it is worth noting that the consumer preview is only for x86/64 PCs; there isn’t any ARM version that you can download and try out.
Exciting features of windows 8 will be :
- App store
- Cloud integration
- Aero auto colorization
- Inbuilt ISO mounting
- Built in PDF reader (called Modern reader)
- Internet explorer 10
- Windows live integration
These are only the highlights of few upgrades of windows 8 over windows 7. Time will only reveal its true efficiency and efficacy. Microsoft is about to release the final version of windows 8 during the October of this year. It’s the same time when Apple will unleash its legendary MacBook Air Pro. Is it also a part of long running cold war between these two pirates of Silicon Valley? Or it may just be a co-incidence as October is the beginning of the festive season.
Till then windows lovers will have to wait for the new product to launch. If anyone is looking forward to buy a new laptop, should wait for sometime if he wants to get a genuine version of windows 8 because new machines are surely getting loaded with the windows’ new OS.
